Pictures.
Well this wasn't really a dwarf (me either) but that is when I was swapping out grow beds last summer and moved the papaya.


Ok, searching for the banana pictures. Supposedly they were to be dwarf with aprox mature size of 4 foot.
Here is a picture of that banana plant last summer.

I'm kinda shocked that I don't have any pictures posted of it in October/November before we had to cut it down to put the plastic on. I'll have to go dig through my computer and find one.

Here is what that banana plant in the AP looked like before we had to chop it off. It was up into the power lines and way bigger than the regular banana plants out in the soil.

wow - how deep was that bed TC? Looks like it would be to shallow to support it well and wind might just push it over. Did you perhaps anchor it some how?

You're supposed to have a dwarf in those pics... for visual reference, of course.

Now I'm scared of the three 'dwarf' Cavendish and one Double banana I just put in my system.... might be trying to solve the height problem!!

No special anchoring, the bed is about 16 inches deep. The banana is not an especially deep rooted plant, it really isn't a tree but a herbaceous perennial. The clump that plant has become is probably gonna be a problem to dig suckers out of that bed to move elsewhere.

I planted it thinking, dwarf, sure even if it gets a bit bigger than the 4' the catalog says, it will probably still be ok

It's mate in the dirt, the main stem was 4-5' high and the leaves probably topped out around 8'. The one in AP, the main stem was probably over 9' and the leaves well over 14' which is about how high the top of the arch was on the cover.

Anyone tried waimanolo papaya? It's a dwarf

I've heard people talk about anchoring of large plants a few times. In fact one AP DVD (which shall remain nameless) talks about the fact that you can't grow tall trees in expanded clay and that you must use rock media to keep them anchored.

These little babies have been in here for almost 4 years I think now and we have had some pretty big storms come gusting through, they haven't moved a bit, growing in about 25cm of expanded clay. Yes the palm on the left is on an angle but that's only because it's hit the roof and it's trying to push it's way out the side

Its starting to make that 3000L tank look like a 'dwarf'
