I have planted a large bird and eye chilli plant in my system and boy she went into heavy shock lost all its established leaves leaving only young leaves fortunitly the young leaves seem to doing well, my younger plant I planted lost all its leaves and is a green stork...

+1 for keeping the squirrels away, I use peper/garlic spray and never had a squirrel anywhere near my garden.

what ph is ideal for capsicums? I've a couple of plants in my system that seem to be in hibernation even with 30deg water and 40 degree air temps (thats C not F!). chillis are doing a little better but not much, while the toms/cucs/pumpkins are doing well.

I have had potassium deficiency which I've corrected with Potassium Sulphate as my system ph has been too high to use potassium carbonate (been around 7.5 due to topping up with high ph source water).

Even after dosing with potash of sulphate the caps don't pick up while the other plants do. So I'm thinking its a ph issue. Certainly not nitrates as these are in the mid 50's. Has anyone else found this?

5.5 - 6.5 is optimal, but I wouldn't think that yours would hold them back too much. Have you tried some seasol in your system ?

yep - give it a good slosh of seasol every 3 weeks or so, though I have got plenty of heavy feeders in a youngish system so maybe the caps are not as good at getting the trace elements?

Think potassium has been chronically short as I've had lots of intervenal chlorosis on older leaves with some burning on the edges and poor root formation. Maybe Caps have a higher potassium requirement?

that excess nitrogen can inhibit potassium and calcium uptake so that may be a contributing factor.

My PH hovers around 7 - 7.2 and my cappa's go nuts.

Others wont like me saying this but putting a small amount of soluable phosphorus in the system will help with fruiting plants. Only found this out this year and have tomatoes going nuts as well as peppers. I am talking only a tablespoon in a 3000L system every few months

I don't mind Mantis - funnily enough a vid I watched recently by Nate Storey said the same thing, though he suggested using rock phosphate if you had a system that was heavily planted with fruting plants.

I did try to source some but got very blank looks a B's. Do you buy soluble phosphorous from places like Bunnings?

What brand is that mantis please, no sure I have seen it.
