i'm working on an indoor system with a 325 liter fish tank.
i'm still working out the amount of pumpkinseed sunfish i need, and how much grow bed to match them.

as i'm growing them indoor i'll have less direct sunlight available, it'll be placed near a window.

i was thinking of growing, lettuce and herbs for a major part but what species can be grown inside without grow lights?

Go for leafy greens as they will have the best chance, things like lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, arugula, endive, radicchio, kale, mustard, cabbage and bok choi can survive on 2 hours sunlight per day. I wouldn't bother with anything that fruits.

thanks, leafy greens it is, any tips on good choices for a new system. (since some greens are more demanding in nutrition)

A few I have had success with indoors:

- Bok choy 'Joi Choi'
- Green lettuce varieties with a compact growth habit (i.e. butterhead, Muir, oakleaf)
- Spearmint
- Swiss chard
- Kale
- Basil
- Shungiku (chrysanthemum greens)
- Green mizuna / mustard
- Minutina

Out of these, the best growers by far have been Joi Choi, green lettuce, chard, and minutina.

I have also been experimenting with strawberries indoors under grow lights within a small (20gal) media bed system. So far the results have been fairly promising, but I will need to further refine my methodology.
