Identification
Can anyone help me figure out what type of plant this is?
Somewhat tropical or sub tropical I think. Definitely evergreen. This one is small but I've seen some that are rather large shrubs.

Looks like what my folks always referred to as a 'Rubber Plant'
In our climate (Melbourne Australia) it grew well, was on the lee side of a blue stone wall (out of the direct sun) and grew to perhaps 2 yards or so tall. However this was also in a pot.
Just a size confirmation, those leaves are about 6" - 8" long and 3"-4" wide?

Yep, common name rubber plant(Ficus elastica).
Had one in a pot for years and then put it in the ground. 2 stories later. Sucker grows big if it can tap into enough water. Down the road from my place there is a small 2 story house that you can only see when they trim the rubber plant growing in front of it.

Would pull it TC, as Duff says they grow fast and have an invasive root system. If they can get to water they will ,choke leach drains and lift just about anything.

I guess I'm lucky that it gets frost pruned every few years. Yea the leaves are 6-8".

It has now been moved out to the far corner of the front yard (actually off my property now.) If it want's to grow big out there, fine. I doubt it would ever get to be much more than a large shrub around here (my neighbor used to have one that was about 8 foot tall) since we get hard freezes most years that will do a good job of hard pruning most anything truly tropical.

You are probably right there... and of course it can always be cut down later

I think the milky sap is poisonous, keep it away from your fishies.

We had one years ago, roots grew through a concrete swing pool, and sap is poisonous

they love water pipes and sewerage systems

Ours was fine in a pot. perhaps you should pot it.
Also it depends on your climate, both Nocky and more-so Jaymie live in warmer climates than me.

Our 2 story one was happy for years inside in a pot all root bound. But still went nuts when planted outside. Was a nice looking tree.
