i understand there all edible But im just wondering at what point are they worth eating compared to not wasting a live fishes life and tossing him into a dam? by the end of the month my 8 trout have to move out, as im not allowed another system, and its getting too hot anyways. iv got a dam for them to go too before the sp's arrive but i'd really like to try some iv got 4 bigger ones, and the rest would be too small..... |

Mine havent grow so well but the smallest so far was 250g and they are good to go. Enough for the wife at least. If you cook them whole you get all the flesh, and the bones lift out in one go. |

Yeah 250gm would be the lowest I'd bother with. 300gm is a nice eating size. |

Fish fingers anyone? Hey, people quite happily eat Garfish, Pichards and Herring. Smoking them could be an option, then you can peel off the smoked flesh. Wazza |

Most of mine are over 250 but have some - 1/3? around 200 and even a bit lower. They are fine to eat and not much more fiddly than the big ones. Smoke em and put them on a cracker with Camembert and parsley with a squeeze of lemon. Too good to throw in a dam for a stork! Attachment: crackers.jpg [ 62.44 KiB | Viewed 9710 times ] |

I reckon 30cm is ok, but when they get to 32-33 cm they have almost twice as much meat and are a much bigger meal. |

Hi Erich, from our experience it is more the night time temps which give the most trouble with trout. If the temp of the water doesnt get a chance to cool down at night, then it keeps increasing and before you know it you have reach 24 degrees water temp and all the fish are dead. |
