Hi all, been a while. I had a system that did pretty well till I had a die-off from a electricity failure. I get thinking I was going to restart it, any day now, but with one thing and another, it got delayed, for a long time. With the economic downturn, I had to take care of business for a while, so I couldn't amuse myself. Now, things are better and I am ready to be burnt to a crisp again by the aquaponic dragons. Living in Costa Rica, where the climate is wonderful, and the soil hates tomatoes. |

The new idea is to setup a system that runs off solar panels (I have about 200 watts worth), completely enclosed, including roof. This will deal with the rains we have which can dilute the nutrients, as well as prevent insect problems. The goal is tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers and cole crops. After that, expand. The fish will be catfish (channel) - of which I have plenty in my ponds which are starting to breed, and longostinos. (think yabbies that get 12 inches long) I am going to start relatively small, for me, and go through a cycle to get things right (120 days is a cycle for me because the system will mature and have harvest in that time), then make adjustments. Okay, got to do a bunch of catching up on what has evolved here in the last couple of years... |

yes, it is still beautiful here - makes up for me being a little bit uglier every year. Looking forward to getting back into it. Regarding early, this is early (2:20 am), that was during the day here. Time zones and all that. |
