Hi I'm Aman I recently got into growing my own veg on a rented allotment and I was searching for information on building a geodesic dome greenhouse when I found info on Aquaponics and suddenly something switched on in my head and i thought why haven't people been doing this forever? It seems so obvious and the perfect future proof food system. I am at the reading stage but I plan to build a small experimental system over the next few months (my wife is not convinced and I have other projects on the go like renovating our 1969 airstream but I will have to try and fit it in around the other projects somehow.) I plan to build a geodesic dome over the winter and i will site my experiments in there so they are protected from the worst of the elements. Anyway this is all very new to me so i am depending on you guys to help me through the steep learning curve aman |

Hey aman, Love to hear more about this geodesic dome. And if you have any links, pics ect. welcome to aquaponics, but beware of the addiction factor. |

Thanks for the warm welcome Are there many people practicing Aquaponics in the UK? I would be great to meet up and have a look at what they have done. Here is a link to the dome I plan to build http://www.geo-dome.co.uk/article.asp?uname=wootendome I will be building it from plans though and not a kit but it looks quite straightforward. I think it will be great for Aquaponics |

Welcome aman! Hex was building a dome in his backyard in Lincolnshire, you might try PMing him. Haven't seen him on lately though. |

Welcome aman! There are a few Ap`ers in the UK - a few that have been on our courses have started their own systems but are quite shy about sharing or are lurking in the background! More and more people are wanting to be more self sufficient and what with the water scarcity now - aquaponics is the way to go! We are managing to have fresh vegetables/salads and fish 12 months of the year - which is not bad going. If we can help in any way - please feel free to ask! WD |

Thanks WD. I do not think I will be able to make the July one but let me know when you have one coming up after that. We may be up your way in September. Is it possible to come visit you and have a look at what you do there? |

Hi All (again) I have not been on this forum for such a long long time and a lot has happened in this time and I am glad I didn't build my geodesic dome and my aquaponics system at the time because shortly after we were made homeless by a madman and haven't had anywhere stable enough to start experimenting with AP My passion for the subject has not gone away though and we are slowly getting to a stage where we can try again. We now live full time in our Airstream and have an allotment that we are building out geodesic dome on. We should be erecting it this weekend if the weather is not too windy. Everything is built and I am covering the panels in plastic as we speak. I can then get started on designing and building my first AP system which I think will be a simple IBC system to start with. We have no electricity at our allotment so the whole system will have to be off grid and hopefully remotely monitored. Anyway, I just though I would reintroduce myself and let you know what had been going on. Paul |
