Hi guys Have spent quite a bit of time today trawling through different threads - wow quite informative. I do have a couple of questions. We have just purchased a 700L tank from Basix Plastix, which has the grow bed on top of it. What would be a good fish to use to start everything up. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! Also where is the best place to get the fish from in the Newcastle/Hunter area? Thanks!!!!! |

Hi RP - welcome to the forum As F&F said, or silver perch are also a viable, forgiving option for you as well. Hard to recommend stocking levels for you as we don't know what volume your GB is - Basix didn't have it on their site either. Please, start out slow and don't get more than 15 small fish in there. |

Hi Rosey...  Hope they gave you some info with the system to help a little bit.. How big is your growbed, that is how much media is in it? And how much pumping is happening in the system? Does it flood and drain, is it constantly flooded? Sorry for the barrage of questions but we need to know some of this sort of info to recommend species and numbers of fish... |

Thanks guys for your response. I think the grow bed is 300L. It is constantly flooded. Media is scoria. And I will post some pics tomorrow, when its daylight. |

The biggest problem you might have Rosey... is not what fish to stock, or how many... But how to get them out of the tank once they've grown and you want to eat them... |

The kids love fishing, so maybe they can spend some time 'fishing'!! haha I thought that you couldn't get trout?? Only from what I've seen on hear????? Would lurve trout... |

Sounds great...but as my wife will attest, I take a long time to start things...so my notes could be a little while away. Looking forward to sharing though. I bought 8 IBC's at the weekend...yes...8...I will hide some of them at work until I can justify it! Now am waiting on Rup to quote my hydroton. This ride's gonna be fun! Cheers, Nom |

Im with you on these types of systems Rupe, not only would it be difficult catching the fish but cleaning and checking the pump and piping etc. They do look neat and tidy but IMO they could get a little difficult to work with. |
