Greetings, nice to be doing this for the first time. We are currently at the planning and purchasing phase. So needing to do the sponge on information. The thought is for rainbow trout, 5000l tank and a 2000 l tank installed, probably 4 by 500l growbeds. Happy to hear from suppliers - have contacted Dean in melbourne - must chase up fish - need to find out how to choose a stocking rate. apparently I need a licence. dont need one to buy a horse, cow or chooks - but fish is diferent? look forward to meeting some of you participants....

Read this for information on stocking rates.

Basically for every 100L of media you can grow 3kg of (harvest weight) of fish.

With 4 x 500L beds you have 2000L of media which gives you enough filtration for 60kgs of fish. If harvest weight it 500g then 120 fish.

Hi Colombine,

Of course they are MAXIMUM stocking levels... :D You can halve that amount of fish and have a very successful system with fewer hassles...

This also makes interesting reading..
