| Post subject: | Hello from Tokyo (for now) |
Hi all ,An American living in Tokyo here. After 3.5 years, I'll be moving back to the States within the next few months. Initially the family and I will be moving to Orlando FL (a special 'hi' to TCLynx) where hopefully the climate will provide a little extra growing season to compensate for my late start on a system. Mercifully I caught the AP bug (via the NY Times article) very close to the end of my stay here. Otherwise setting-up a small AP system in my Tokyo apartment would have been a nightmare, especially for the wife. I did think about it and even visited the local aquarium/ gardening shops, though. Anyway, I hope to begin setting-up a system and being more active on the boards shortly after I return home. Though, it will certainly be much more of me soliciting advice than providing it. At least at first. Thanks, -david |

Hi David, I caught the bug last year and there is/was enough reading here and youtube videos to keep the addiction gowing for a long time before starting a system. I only just got a system cycling, so I probably read the forums for six months before even starting. This place is full of really great people and I still wake up every morning and visit the forum before doing much else. It is great that you actually found out about AP before moving, now you will be able to buy/rent a place based not only on your other requirements, but also with AP in mind. Most people here are well rooted and have to make do with the property/space they currently live on. If I had known about AP 10 years ago, I would not be living in a neighborhood with an HOA. Mark |

Welcome David!! Glad to see another Southeastern APer!! (Well, soon to be Southeastern...) Good point from DV... you can rent/buy based on other parameters + AP. Never too late to start, either... especially that far South. CB |

Thanks for the nice welcomes. Mark, I've pretty much read the BYAP boards every day since joining. I remember reading about your issues with your local HOA regarding your GH. That is a bummer. I wonder if their decision would be any different if you were a HOA member. No doubt I will be mindful of such things when I settle for good back in the States. "Sorry hunny, beautiful house and great school district yes, but no southern exposure and hardiness zone of only 5... let's keep looking." Good luck with your current project, Mark. -david |
