Hi folks
From Horsham in western victoria and am just getting an AP setup running. Starting small with a 500L ft and two 150L growbeds, which are setup in my greenhouse.
Hoping to get my submersible pump this week so I can start it cycling
Looking to get 25-30 rainbows for it in a few weeks time

Been lurking and reading a few threads and learning heaps
Also do all grain homebrewing
So cheers :occasion5:

make that 5 - 6 rainbows and you'll be right.

A fully setup and cycled mature system can handle 3kg of fish per 100 litres of growbed. A new one cannot.

I'd like to do all grain homebrewing, unfortunately AP does not leave me the time :) Welcome to the forum.

Yep, you might get away with 10 max... if you've cycled... and can add another two growbeds...

I was planning to go the straight aqauculture path and have purchased a pond filter that is rated to 13000L. My plan is to run the excess water from the pump through this and back to the tank.
But I will take your advice and cut the fish numbers down
Thanks

Does not matter what the pond filter is rated to. Thats the amount of water it can handle, not the amount of fish.

You told another chap in another thread that he could put 6-10 fish in a 55gal barrel
My tank is 110Gal and I can only put 5-6 :?:

sure you can put 20 odd, but only after the system has cycled.
Before the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate cycle is complete, the water will be very hazardous to large groups of fish.
Trout are especially sensitive of all the fish we keep, and so you need to be even more careful.
I'd put 10 goldfish in there, then worry about my trout after.

I have taken your advice and put 10 small goldfish in the tank.
Also I now have 3 growbeds totaling 400L of growbed media with autosyphons working
2 larger goldfish from my pond have been in the tank for 4 days and the other 8 smaller ones went in 24 hrs ago
Ph 7.4
nitrite, nitrate, ammonia are 0,0,0
Have done a few 20L water changes to bring the ph down as it was at 8.4 from the muck washed off the 20mm pebbles I used

Will do water tests daily and more water changes
