Hi from Adelaide, I have just about finished a DIY aquaponics system with a white river stone media grow bed It has 2 500 l fish tanks and two 220l tanks all lined up and joined together. In 1 200l tank sits a submersible pump which pumps water to the 1000l grow bed 1800mm X 1200mm X 3-400mm deep,which in turn drains to an end 500l tank. 10 Barramundi in each 500 l tanks now about 150mm long and an assortment of food in the garden bed. I think it is still cycling with both nitrites and amonnia at 0.25 this system has been cycling for about 4 weeks now so here I am to learn and contribute. Cheers |

Hi BD and welcome Great to have another Aquaponist on board but be warned it's addictive although there are worse things to be addicted to. Will be interesting to see how the barra perform in your climate and as Embi wrote pics are great |

The white poly styrene box on the right contains a super quiet air pump which at the moment feeds the larger fish tanks. Cheers |

Hi BD you have the grow bed ratio right, for 500 lts of grow bed you can have around 20 fish also, but price of Barra (here anyway) you should be fine for now, system should be almost cycled at them readings but be careful in hot temps the Amm and Nitrite don't get much higher, because of the diameter of your main tanks I think you have enough fish as barra like the bottom, nice looking system, tidy things up? why no one else does, no point being a trend setter

The top of the bed sits about 1000mm of the ground accessed by a couple of steps which goes up the back yard. Hi Noky...... Thanks for the info. I agree with you,tidying things up, well sometimes, but I really do have to answer to the boss, she'll kill me if I mess her pergola up. Ha,Ha Ha. Oh well Cheers |

Hi Embi and Desertrat...............thanks for the welcome. Err..... I am still learning how to get the pictures small enough to post, but I will eventually get there. Additive...... yep. I think my major problem at the moment is I'm still to eager to see things happen, but thats me all over I guess. Yes, those beautiful fish are going to be a challenge in the winter, especially keeping the tanks warm enough, economically.Thats when we get down to 0-5C regularly overnight. Cheers. |

BD search for PIXresizer on google and download it's free, when running click load image find pic and change size to 800 x 600, but if box is selected maintain aspect ratio then type in 800 and the other box will change, select the box same as original and click save, rename what you like and then will be fine to upload, I have tried the work with multiple file option but can't get it to work properly, doing one at time only takes a few seconds anyhow |

Or just download the Microsoft Image Resizer.... install... then right click any file (or group of files)... and select resize... select 800x600... creates a scaled file with an added "medium" designation ... leaves the original file... Yes agree MS image resizer is easier and free Looks like a pretty tidy system why waste time tidying things up when you could be spending the time making the system bigger!!!!! |

never seen the MS one, I use the Minimal MS products as possible, somewhere along the line they will cause a system crash and the feared BSOD  PIX resizer is also free and hasn't crashed my pc yet and works with 2 clicks and 1 type |

Image Resizer is also free... easy to use.... and has never caused a crash in over 5 years... and works with two clicks... and selection of the file... or files... P.S.... and I've only had about two BSOD in about 5 years... and they both related to problems with a video card flaking out... not exactly a MS problem/cause... If you're getting regular BSOD... there's something physically wrong with your computer... a third party application.... or you've really screwed with your configuration in some other way...
