Mabuhay (Greetings) from Manila. I'm new and want to learn aquaponics so I can use it in our backyard space. I was thinking of using PVC gutter as my material to plant my seeds. Does anyone know if putting pebble stone in a PVC gutter with DWT works? Can anyone lead me to a link in the forum that uses PVC gutter with DWT system?

Thanks in advance and God Bless! :)

hay there!!!!! Welcome
First I highly recommend reading the Basic Info and Useful info sections of the forum to help you with many questions and give you ideas for new questions to ask.

Then yes you should choose a few big member system thread to read through completely.
I will recommend you start with OBO's member system thread

it starts off with a system of PVC pipes with gravel in them to grow the plants, but do read it through since he replaces that method of growing because there are definitely problems with using pvc pipes as grow beds.

PVC pipes don't usually give you enough space for gravel, roots and water to flow well for long, however there are exceptions to all rules, here is an example of pipes being used for grow beds in this commercial thread.

But to be fair, these are pipes more on the order of barrel size.

Most people actually do best when adding regular NFT pipes as a supplemental plant growing space to a system with regular gravel or media filled grow beds. My system has a couple NFT pipes with plants growing in little cups or net pots but no media in the pipe itself. This makes it much easier to remove plants and trim roots as needed to deal with pipe blockages. When pipes are filled with media, it can get hard to remove plants as their roots cling to the media.

Good Luck in your design and welcome again

Thank you so much for the info. I will check the link and read everything on and learn from it. If I see that the PVC with media will really not work for my place specially here in the Philippines, I will just build a barrel system with a 250gal IBC tank as my pond (hehehe if i can find one here in Manila)

Again, thank you so much TCLynx! :)
