Hi All Saw an article in the West Australian (newspaper) about Aquaponics when the Royal Show was on and thought this looks interesting. Well have been hooked since exploring this forum and seeing the possabilities although I think my brain is just about worn out with all the info I've been trying to absorb. Anyway the name is Kevin and I live in Kallaroo which is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. I am retired and kept pretty busy with family commitments. Like to spend any spare time making toys for the grand kids and occasional sale and growing a few vegies in my very small veg garden. Just to show off a bit here is a pic of my latest creation for the grandson. Attachment: Toy Garage web.JPG [ 24.19 KiB | Viewed 2684 times ] Was really a bad move because it's a sod to assemble and since I made this one I seem to be getting a constant stream of orders from people who see it. Anyway back to Aquaponics. I am currently digesting all the info I have found and busy planning my first system which will have to be reasonable small due to available space. Having said that the chairman of the board seems to have a different set of priorities for my spare time so it may be a bit of a juggle trying to avoid the household chores and remain focussed on the important stuff like Aquaponics and woodwork. No doubt as I move along with my planning I will be seeking plenty of advice. Regards Kevin |

Welcome to the forum BigKev and welcome to the addition called Aquaponics. Beware when you say you are going to start out small because it will grow If you do a search on barrelponics these may suit the smaller area and budget. Anyway welcome once again and good luck with getting your new system up and running. PS: Great woodwork on the multi level car park. I bet your Grandson loves it. It is always hard to build something a second time when the first one had all the love |

Once the chairman of the board sees the results of your aquaponics system... you may find you've got a lot more time for your woodwork... Because the aquaponics system might be removed from your care and responsibility... Welcome Big Kev... |

What are the Chair's favorite foods? Are having fab live fresh salads every day a priority? If so your juggle may get far easier once you show how great AP can grow fresh veggies. Your wood working skills show that you are quite able to build a DIY system. Welcome!!!! Please feel free to start a member system thread showing us what space you have available for AP and we might be able to point you in some useful directions of research and materials for such space. Sorry, there is no escape now, you will need regular doses of aquaponics from now on. Then again, it is fun and educational. Perhaps you will be building AP systems for the grandkids next. |

Hello! I'm quite close to where you are. I'm down in Greenwood. Today my brother in law and myself have been steam cleaning the inside of some big plastic tanks - getting ready for aquaponics set-up. This plan below gives you an idea of the tanks. http://www.dbcourt.co.uk/hydroponics/im ... 4_0012.jpg except we've each got 3 & my third I just cut the top off, as wanted one big tank. I'll have to figure out the grow beds for this one later! Anyhow, good luck! |
