Hello all from a new member!!

A while back I stumbled over backyard aquaponics when I was researching keeping native fish. I've been keeping tropical and coldwater aquariums for some time now and have always liked the idea of setting up an outdoor pond or tank.

Several days ago a friend said they were going to set up an 'aquaponics' system on their property and I remembered reading through several of the posts here....

...and so I have practically done nothing but read through them for the past few days.

We have just moved into a new house, so for the time being I have decided to set up a small test system to start with. From what I've read already read, it's a fairly infectious past-time.

I have a few questions to ask, and I will begin posting the ideas I have for my test system once I get them in order.

In the meantime, glad to be here, and look forward to learning as much as I can about this amazing concept!

...and my other half shake her head and frown!

Don't know much about keping trout. My test system that I have in mind will be based on a spare 200litre glass aquarium that I have spare at the moment (smallish scale, i know), so not sure... but very tempting!

And Dufflight, please tell me more of this "spare time" of which you speak? I'm not quite sure what you're talking about

Worms, I might take you up on that.... will PM you when I've got a bit more time. What sort of setup are you running? And the fish? Would love to know what AP people in the area use, especially now we are heading into the cold weather.

I recently started a thread in the systems area with info on what I'm planning. Hope I didn't get too far ahead of myself or put it in the wrong place.... Basically my ideas so far

As always I'm keen to get cracking on this fishy experiment, but due to a few upcoming commitments, I probably wont be able to get this up and running for a few weeks.... the tension!

Another Newcastle AP wannabe here.

Currently in research phase while we finish off house rennos over next 6 months, then im thinkin of a reasonable sized system, somethin like a 2000 ltr maybe...

great forum, and looking forward to picking your collective brains over coming months as i start collecting gear and getting ready to go!.
