Hi Folks, Like lots of guys around her I'm new to all of this AP stuff, but it certainly has got my interest going. My plan at the moment is to set up a small scale AP system as a trial, and then hopefully set up a more comprehensive system when I move back "home" later in the year. As I'm wanting to start small, my current thoughts for the system are based around growing herbs rather than vegies, and stocking the aquatic side with yabbies and pygmy perch. Also, just to throw another interest into the mix, I've been experimenting with form warming with some modest level of sucess, and what I've read so far suggests that the AP and vermiculture should work hand in hand. However, as I say I'm very new to all of this, so be prepared for plenty of dumb questions over the coming months. Cheers John |

Hi John, No such thing as a stupid question, You just joined after we asked them! Herb garden sounds good, Check out the micro system in the "Dicko's System" link below, The photo's were a while back, just after germination, System now has 6 goldfish in the 50 litre tub and provides enough salad greens to make my sandwiches each day, as well as plenty of basil and coriander for the kitchen. Have fun . |

I am hoping to get something lightly larger as a starter system, but having some fun with the system is definitely part of the plan.

mal5000 wrote: and rupert .... Girraween is a suburb in perth too so the fact that there's two, proves the ambiguity of location and so validates the question. I would vote for Perth though, as there's a higher percentage of Perth ppl on the forum. Also because the subject is 'Hello from Perth' But I do like to present all the evidence. The more trivial the better |

It's not fair to confuse a skim reader like that... |

Well it's nice to see that I've started off my posts by generating such spectacular confusion ... Yes, it's Girrawheen (with a h) in Perth ... the one in Western Australia. If I can generate this much confusion with one typo and an introduction I look forward to watching just how pear-shaped things go when I start asking AP questions

Don't take too much credit John,... we would have found a way to get off topic by the second page anyway.... Look forward to seeing your system come together.... and questions... ask away... |

Right folks, I think this might be my last introductory post I talked to the “landlord”, Brad, last night, and his response was enthusiastic to say the least. On the basis of our discussions I’ve decided to go for a modified version of the barrel-ponics system. The modifications are just to rearrange the setup so that it’s more appropriate to the area of the back garden that’s been identified for AP use. Also, Brad’s had problems in the past with pests attacking vegies, so I also need to consider some form of insect and sun protection “designed” into the setup. The next step is to talk to my “barrel man” and get on with some “site clearance”, and I should really get on with that sooner rather than later, because another mate is coming back from the farm with a bucket full of yabbies mid week. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to start another thread with plenty of pics, detailing every stumbling step along the way … Have fun |
