Hi everyone,

As in Title we are new to AP after reading about it in a Grass Roots Mag I got from the local library, I showed it to my hubby and that we it he was hooked...LOL

This week we have dug a very big hole..2.4mt X 2.5mt X .35mt deep, this has been lined with pond liner.
this will be our main tank.
We have also gone and brought 20 black brim fingerlings wish are in a small tank set up for now.
we sadly lost 8 of them on the way home we think it was to much shaking around in the bag in the car and a bit of shock.

Today we went and brought a round 150Lt pond tank from Bunnings for a grow bed and the pipping to connect it all, and a pump ( when this is in the pond does it need to be on all the time like an inside fish tank or just some times to flood the beds?

Will try and get some photos over the next few days.

any help and info would be great.

Tania & Steve

Welcome Tania and Steve - look forward to seeing the pictures. A small tip, in my experience ponds from bunnings are extremely expensive. Not sure where your part of WA is in relation to Joel's shop - but if it is not too far, it would be worth a visit I reckon :D

Welcome to the addiction.

Did see the shop address on the website was planning to go down there in the next few days.

How much grow beds should we have for that size tank ( I think it holds about 2000lt from what I have worked out)
also do we have to wait till the fingerlings are bigger to put them in the tank how big do they need to be to run the beds?

We have them in a small holding tub with a filler and pump atm.

Other thing I was worried about it the pond/tank deep enough at 35 - 40cm ( Steve wants it to be as he will not want to dig out more dirt and reline it), I think its ok with it being so wide and Long.

Hi Tan,

Al from Mandurah here,
I work in Kwinana, you up for a coffee some time?
See my thread for details of my systems.
They are pretty new so I'm looking for ideas and like minded people to chat with.

A deeper pond would maintain a more stabe temp and be subject to less evaporation (ie in comparison to a deep pond with a smaller surface area.) However it's alot safer for kids and animals to be around. The fish will often appreciate more depth so that they can hide. You might like to grow some water lillies to provide a bit of shelter for the fish (and protection from the birds), and it will also reduce evaporation.
Have fun

With a 2000 liter tank, you really want to aim for at least 2000 liters of growbed volume.
