I haven't yet set up my system due to lack of information. I've ordered the book, but I'd still like to get a little bit of a head start on winter. My buddy and I have scored a couple of food grade 1000ltr plastic tanks from a local doggie biscuit company and I can get a dozen more if I want, along with food grade barrels. They're large and I want to design my system around them. My wish is to have a large stand of veggies for home and for sale. Ideas anyone?

Welcome peasandtatters.... where to start...

Well having a dozen or more 1000ltr tanks and a source of food grade barrels ... is a pretty good place to start.....

How big a system do you want ... how much space do you have available... space might be your limiting factor...

Your on your way mate, lucky you , to have the basic infrastructure available. You can create a mega system with that gear. Best of luck, and would love to see pictures of construction and then mass production

Welcome to our mad-vegi-fish world! There are quite a few different types of systems in these threads. I wasn't brave enough to jump right into a big system so I started with a barrel system and learned a lot. When you read the theads you have something to relate to. I am only going to make a couple of suggestions for a starter. Get a water test kit first off, and when designing your system I would suggest the Chift pist type system as it seems to be user friendly after construction is complete. I don't have this just something it appears lots of members are moving to for user friendly, easier to control reasons.

Thanks Oz. I went through most of the pictures on the thread you sent me. Greatly appreciate it! Jeez, you don't say much, but your pics sure do. There's enough detail there for me to go ahead and start my own expandable design. Hope you don't mind if I swipe some of your ideas.
