Hiya from Granny Mary (aka Grey Mare) I'm moving to Hilton near Fremantle WA late next month and hope to set up a small system out the back on a 550sqm block. Not much room so I am hoping to use a square tank which would fit in without wasting space. Has anyone out there used those 1000 litre white plastic cubes encased in a galvanised cage (food grade)? I'm wondering about the shape - do you think the fish would mind? Any problems with too much algae or anything like that? I'm on a steep learning curve here, so any input gratefully received. __________ As the years go by we never THINK any older. |

Hi Gran, I think you'll' find most backyard systems are built around those tanks! The trick seems to be finding out what was in the tank beforehand! IBYP, |

Hey thanks everyone for your responses! I've had a look at your various systems (as best I can negotiate my way around this Forum - this is all new stuff for me). Boris I'll definitely call in to see your system - will PM. This is all looking very complicated! The idea sounds simple, but the plumbing side looks hard and maintaining the balance seems difficult. But I guess it always does when one is new. Would help to read the book perhaps! Thanks again. Mare |

we're bored. so we tinker. its actually quite easy, and the less you tinker with the balance the less goes wrong |

we actually have deep and complicated and sometimes fiery discussions just to impress don't let this scare you it would not be the first time that we can actually LEARN something from a newbie as they often have a fresh, uncluttered approach I use IBC's too frank |

There's definitely something to what Steve's saying : once the systems runnign fine , not leaking and no fish are dying ... RESIST THE URGE TO ADD EXTRA PARTS ! hehe |
