:D Hi everyone. I have read the Aquaponics bible and have spent many hours reading everyones posts and I now have an aquaponics addiction. I have started small with a 160 ltr grow bed over an open 600 ltr rain water tank. 10mm gravel in the grow bed and some goldfish. I have planted some seedling lettuce, coriander and some strawberries. I hope to add a few Silver perch, maybe 10 when the plants get going and the weather warms up a little. The diameter of the pipe work maybe a bit small but will be fine for now. It doesn't matter how big you start as long as you start. If everything goes well I will expand into a larger system in the near future. This is just a trial run. The other half is a horticulturalist and as you can see, she has had a run of the backyard for some time. With all the excitement I have mouthed off and we have a growing challenge. She has the same plants planted up in soil and the competition has started. Hope to represent BYAP well. Not sure about the black tub. Might not be the best plastic. Will fix that next time around. Lights were sitting in the shed doing nothing, so I though why not.

Its not fair to do a grow off between a new system and soil based growing. The system needs to be at least 3-6 months old to mature and attain full growth.

Thanks for that OBA. That will be my get out of jail card if I lose. I might have to trim her plant up when she's not looking.

Scottt has some vegetarian rats that he'd like to relocate Gilly.... :wink:

Vegetable trained, proficient and have a healthy appetite.... urgently require a new home.... :mrgreen:

We have too many feral cats around here to have rats (ignorance is bliss). Our yard seems to be a favourite cut through for the little buggers. I have been thinking of setting a few traps for them but there harmless and the alternatives 'rats' are less appealing. We also have our own attack cat that we release during the day. Hi Monya, no Mullet hair cut, thank god. 8)

Beware. Those green tubs tend to multiply.
I started with one.. then two..then four.. now six !

Yeah, Scott the green Tubs are cheap cheap cheap. They are on sale at Bunnings every so often for $55. Will be taking advantage of that next time I see them. 4 would give me over 2000 ltr for about $220.00.

With having 4 tanks I would assume you would need 4 pumps. How would you overcome that, is there any tricks out there that would use less pumps.

Can't make the get together this time round but look forward to the next one that's on.

Keep the AP vs dirt competition going for more than the first season. They have done such things between AP and Hydroponics. AP usually looses for the first season (since the system is too new to have a good micro bio-diversity yet) but in later seasons the AP often does better and better (of course this is often the case with organic gardening too.)

looks to me like te cat in that pic is moving the green tub into the right position . migt havet opay that cat one day - it thinks its helping ..

might have to pay it in fish ....

Join all the tubs together at the bottom, and hook up 1 pump :D
