Hi everyone

i have been thinking about the idea of aquaponics for awhile now and whilst doing some research i found this site. I have been looking for a better way (less water) to grow wonderful organic veggies. Im in New South Wales, Australia.

Congratulations on a wonderful site that is full of lots of wonderful information and different designs from the simple to the more complex but they all work

i have most of what i need to setup my first flood and drain system ( need a grow bed (100mm storm waterdrain pipe 6m long) and a pump and a few fittings on the delivery side are also needed. This system will be down the side of the shed ( approx shoulder width with a little room to spare ) will have to see how it goes.

Thanks to everyone for all the posts to read it will take awhile to get through them all

Mal

Thanks Aquamad

i will have to take photos of the back yard and then show you where it will go and then hopefully some of the good results too :)

i will have to wait for my own place before i switch to a medium or large system.

what do you think of using some of the waste water from my tropical tanks ( inside the house ) to kick start the system outside before i start putting to many fish in there to get the plants growing ??

hope your enjoying your night

Mal

mal,,,squeeze your power-headfilter sponges into it also,,it's all good bacteria.
Will give you a good head start on colonising your gravel.

Dont grow tomatoes or anything with a big root system in 100mm pipe, you wont like the end result, water everywhere. They fill up the whole pipe with roots.

Stick with strawberries, lettuce etc and you wil good success.
