Post subject:  Alex from Curacao (Caribbean) joining the AP forum

Hi All,

I'm Alex, I live on Curacao (small island just 80 kilometers north of Venezuela), in the Caribbean Sea.
We are blessed with a super constant temprature of min. 25C and max. 35. Winter or Summer doesn't really matter, normal tempratures are 29 - 31, even at night there is hardly any cooling off. Since we are surrounded by 27C warm water. Which is blown over our island with a almost constant breeze, called the Passat wind.

I haven't started my system yet, but I did already got/bought an 1000L IBC and 4 200L blue barrels (brown actually). I am first cleaning up my garden a little so I have a place for it. I'm also working on re-juvenating the old water tanks that are stored under/below my home. Since Curacao has no fresh water other then rain water, the price of a M3 of water is $10. So the most important part will be to keep the water consumption to a minimum.

This is it for now, I will keep you posted when I proceed future on the my APic journey.

Welcome!
Sounds like you have the perfect weather. I guess you just need to collect as many good water tanks as you can to collect rain when you have it. How regular is your rain there?

Look forward to seeing your system thread in Member systems when you start it. And there is no reason not to start a system thread before you have a system. It can be a good way to get design help on a system you are planning.

Thanx for all the positive replies. TCLynx, so I should start the system thread in the "Member Systems" forum right?
Here are some meteo statistics for 2007.

The annual rainfall total for Hato in 2007 was 551.9 mm; almost equal to the 30-year average of
1971-2000 (553.4 mm). The wettest month of 2007 was December with a monthly total of 124.5 mm
and the driest was March with 0.2 mm.
The 24-hour maximum of 54.4 mm was recorded on September 2 and was caused by the passage of
hurricane Felix.
Hurricane Dean’s passage resulted in the one-hour maximum for the year of 34.0 mm and that was
recorded on August 18 between 21:00 and 22:00 hours.
The maximum intensity per minute of 2.8 mm was also recorded on August 18. The maximum
rainfall duration in minutes was 109 minutes, recorded on October 9.
The number of days with rainfall greater or equal to 1.0 mm was 73 days (normal 70).
The number of hours with rainfall for 2007, recorded at Hato International Airport, was 202.
The number of days with thunder was 37 (normal 23 days).

I will do that tomorrow then, since we have a official holiday.
And Axl, I'm actually pretty happy with the brown tanned barrels, since the blue makes such a strange color in a vegetable garden.
My brown barrels are actually a little drunk, since they contained whiskey, the smell of it already makes you drunk.

Probably make sure you get them barrels really clean, after they are cut open, fill with water and leave in the sun for a couple of days, then empty them :)
