Hi Everyone! I do not have any experience with aquaponics, but I have been gardening for more than 15 years ranging from herbs to fruit trees. I had outdoor goldfishes when I was growing up and had a ton of water lilies, water lettuce, eichhornias, duckweed. I've been doing a lot of research lately and stumbled across the IBC of Aquaponics. I wanted to just buy one IBC locally, which will cost me around $85. Rob Bob's Chop & Flip IBC Build I hope I'll be able to follow the video. My goal is to start with one IBC and use goldfish at first, and once I've gotten the hang of it I'd like to replace the with edible fish. Has anyone else been successful at maintaining an aquaponics system out here? |

Welcome to the forum ![]() I'm sure you'll be able to run a system in Southern California and I'm pretty sure there are other people here on the forum that are in your area. Usually there's a bit of trial and error involved as you get the hang of it so ask questions if you need some help. Cheers |

There are a couple of us on here from the SF Bay Area. I've got a cut and flip IBC system that is currently overloaded with fish solids and root matter in the growbed. Consider a RFF or some other way to remove solids in your initial build or you'll be where I in in couple of years... Look for a new system thread from oneeyedpirate. You should do well with the warmer temps down there. Welcome and have fun. |

G’day mate. Another Aussie welcome to you. Rob Bobs videos are great. You can tell how old the videos are by the length of his beard :-) I started with a 2 IBC system and plan to add a RFF when I add more (edible) fish. I currently have 4 gold fish - bought 5 but one got eaten by birds before I put a lid on the tank. Please create a build thread so we can watch your progress. Good luck and have fun.
