| Post subject: | Iron Deficiency in NFT |
I'm experiencing an iron deficiency in one of my NFT A-Frames. This deficiency is not present in the other part of my system. The total length of the channel in the A-Frame is 45 ft. and the flow rate is 9gph. The water entering the channel is filters and their are no accumulation of solids on the roots. Please advice. |

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I am dosing my system with the recommended supplements in the required ratios. It is only in the NFT pipes that I'm see the iron deficiency. |

45ft run is too long, water may be warming, reducing it's ability to hold oxygen, or simply running out of oxygen over such a length. Also, what is the pH?... Nitrate level?... and what are you doing with the solids filtered out of the system? Does the system contain any media beds? |

I have been using 45' NFT pipes for some time and I have not encountered this localized deficiency while all other foliage is green. The water supply to the NFT pipes is adequately aerated, and the system pH averages 6.4 and the Nitrate is 80ppm. The solids are removed from the system and there are 8 media beds and 8 Dutch buckets. |

A PH of 6.4 is quite low,some versions of chelated Iron may not work at that level.If it's chelated Iron you are using. Can you post a pic of the plants?. |

I am not sure; as I was checking my supplementation log I realized that I have missed 2 routine dosing with potassium. I dozed this am; and I will be monitoring the plants. On another note; I have uploaded some pics using the 800x600 pixels recommendation, but they appear very small in the album. I am still a newbie and attaching pics to post is difficult.

yes it's something. Is the yellowing on the older leaves? I can't tell from the pic. |
