I became interested in Aquaponics, about 5 years ago, when I needed to build a filter system, for my fish pond. I found some very interesting videos on youtube, mainly Murray Hallam from Australia, showing how easy it was, to setup your very own system, this gave me the inspiration to go ahead. I bought two plastic dog baths, 5 feet length, 2 feet width, 1 foot depth, fitted a bell siphon to both, filled with clay gravel, and pumped the water from the pond, into a t-section, that split to supply both tanks. I had some initial problems, with the siphon running on, but cured this, with a snorkel and a small cup, this helped air pull into the system and stop the draining. I clad around both tanks with wooden pallet board to give a more desired look and 5 years later everything is still running smoothly. I grow strawberries and salad in the summer, they both do very well, and cabbage through the winter. Most cuttings I put in will grow for example I grew 10 grape vines from my own vine for a friend who know has them on his allotment for wine making. I have a small pond, that holds 1100 liters of water, with goldfish and rudd supplying the nitrate, its been a great addition to my garden, and well as being a feature is also a talking point when friends and family visit. |

Welcome to the forum Dallas . You should get a system thread going and post up some pics, sounds like a nice setup.

Glad to have you Dallas. I do a bit of the screening along with a lot of other people who've helped out over the years but ultimately the thanks go to Joel (aka EarthBound) for having this site. |
