Hi, glad to have found a forum about natures vitality in a simple form. Im taking a lot of time understanding the basic requirements to develop My own aquaponic system. I have the chance to beguin in a tropical country. Im about to buy a 4000 liter pool with pump. Im interested in making hydroponic towers above the fish tank. My actual question is : can the water go directly to the plants or does it need a "bacterial tank" in between ? Cheers. |

Welcome Tropicaltopic Yes it is always a good idea to have a place for biological activity. Media beds are the simplest form. |

Welcome to the forum. Best bet is to get yourself a copy of the FAO Small scale aquaponic food production http://www.fao.org/in-action/globefish/ ... /c/338354/ it is a pretty good overview of various aspects of Aquaponics. and lots of information in the the top banner of this web site as well. (IBCofAquaponics plus the main page at http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/ the media beds are biofilters if you go down that path. in that case in-between filters are not required. But really depends on system and what fish & how many as to what filtration will be effective. |
