Retiring soon, and have grand plans for they day I do. I have a vision of a large (+5000 gallon) partially below ground, partially above ground, hardscaped and landscaped aquaponic pond with waterfalls (Think Japanese Watergarden on steroids), a variety of edible plants and herbs, built in viewing windows (like an aquarium in places along the side), filled with Golden, Red and Blue Tilapia, Red Claw Crayfish and a few Peacock Bass to keep the numbers down and add some beauty. Yes, this will be more a hobby project, with a delicious side benefit, and some small market possibility of herbs, and garden plants. This will be in the Philippines, so I will have many issues I know. But I thrive on challenges. Thinking of having several waterfalls, providing aeration, and many bog areas, along the edges, to help reduce the byproducts of the fish. I will also have a Black Soldier Fly composting bin, to provide a steady supply of larvae for a protein supplement to the plant food which I plan on growing to feed the Tilapia. Thinking Water Spinach, as it is a very fast growing plant, that I would quickly mince into small bits to feed the fish. Imagining a mostly closed loop system, with filters to remove solids (Re-compost to the BSF). I know, a huge project, with many potential pitfalls, but I will be retired, so what else is there to keep me busy? |
