Post subject:  Hello! I creating game about aquaponics from Indonesia.

Hello everyone, Hildi here! I'm a game developer from Indonesia. Our team are developing a game about aquaponics. Aquaponics topic actually something new for me. I'm responsible in the content design of the game we called Aquaponics Life. And I learn a lot from lurking in the internet in the last few days, especially from the document written by Dr. James Rakocy.

Aquaponics Life is simulation/management/business game. Now I'm working on the causal loop of the aquaponics system and looking for the input from peoples who doing the real aquaponics. From what I learn by reading a lot of materials, I conclude some thing:

Control Variable (variables that can be changed by human):
- Water
- Pump
- Filter
- Pipe design (length, type, etc)
- Fish Feed
- Biological control (maintenance to keep fish & plant from pests/diseases)
- Temperature
- Fish Types
- Plant Types
- Iron Chelated Compound
- Potassium & Calsium Base Compound (to control pH)

I include my diagram here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7PLtn ... sp=sharing

For now our game assuming that the light sources are same, the water also same, and we didn't include a weather effect. We are playing with the fish and plant types in mind. Some fishes will provide higher nutrition and vice-versa, so player need to match their plant with it.
More fish feed that needed by fish, then more waste. Player will need to build the right filter.
The compound also played an important part as the balancer of pH. Player need to check the pH daily to maintain the plant and the fish's quality.

I wonder if there is other variable that I miss.

Any input, we gladly accept. :D :wave1:

Cheers!

interesting concept particularly from an educational viewpoint.

Thank you so much! As the one who have a lot of experience in aquaponics, what do you think about our variable? Do I did it right?

I think your variable list is OK.

I wonder at how your algorithms and calculations will hold it all together.
Vegetation growth models are a challenge in my industry (hydrology & environment) and a weak link in many water use models. So interesting how you will measure and apply the various interactions and dynamics.

Based upon my aquaponics experience you missed the big factor - caterpillars.
Don't manage and/or treat for them here in Australia and a whole leaf crop goes pretty quick.

But yours look to be urban indoor systems.

What is your background and inspiration for doing this ?

Think he got that on biological control.

If its a game you have to have a win lose situation. It would be nice to see preferably a pendulum to one side with fish kill (lose) and plant kill (lose) and a timer counting down to harvest (win). Don't make it easy in that changes to variables will can take time and swing too far. Doesn't have to be really accurate only enough to make a point. :)
