Hi All,

My name is Edwin, and together with my wife of 8 years, Thuli, we've been bitten by the virus :-)

I had been browsing around, as one does these days to get started with anything, and this forum stood out for me, so, here we are.

Hope to learn, make friends, and eventually share our experiences.

Cheers

Edwin and Thuli

Same to you... it's a bit of an adventure not?

BTW, I used to live in your neighbour country Belgium :-)

Txs!

There's a simple reason for that: Water scarcity.

Will post some stuff later on where we come from.

Cheers

So, here's why I ended up in the BYAP forum

The attached picture is our current backyard. And you are not wrong, it's just a traditional veggie backyard, not an aquaponics setup, YET!

My wife started this with one bed, and then she needed another one, so she asked me for some help, preparing the bed, and eventually, at my mid-fifties, she got me exited of what I always loathed. Working in the garden. :-)
And from the initial excitement, i totally fell in love with gardening.
My old fiends would be knocked out of their socks if they would read this! LOL

BUT...

This is South Africa.

And although we are living in a Wetland area, (https://isimangaliso.com/), the whole of Southern Africa has in fact been experiencing below average rainfall for the last 10-15 years, and water is becoming ever more scarce and expensive.

And that's how I ended up here.

So, while we will still carry on the traditional way, we hope to slowly replace the whole traditional garden, into a small-scale commercial aquaponics setup.
We got a few businesses already, so the business side of the project is covered. The farming side however is the challenge . But we both up to the challenge, so we will get this going.

This however means, that we have a lot of reading-up to do, and we will most likely be known, very soon, to ask too many questions.:-)

Any way, we hope to succeed in this, and to be able to contribute here as we learn.

Hope to hear from everyone !

Edwin and Thuli
