Just wanted to introduce our school aquaponics system. We did 4 grow beds that are 55 gallon barrels cut in half. We used river rock for our grow medium. Our tank is a 100 gallon livestock tank. Our system started great but has now hit some hiccups with our 25 tilapia which were successful for 2-3 months have all di d in the last week. Think we determined the cause but will see. Here are some pics of the early system and then from currrent system.

Water looks really dirty there but it cleared up pretty fast.

I wondered if you were hauling water out of the Mississippi river, seemed about the right color

has the water always been that color ? If so may need some better filtering in the system.
also note that the water level seems to be close to the top of the emdia - may be that you need a bit more media.

When you restart maybe re-think the tank to barrels and barrel to tank aspects.

How are you running your barrel filling and drain cycles ?

It's already cleared Darren, it was just from the initial setup -
