Post subject:  Hi From Nauru... but only temporarily

Hi All,

I'm an Australian currently living in Nauru (a small island in the Pacific), and would love to set up a system here, but am moving back to Australia in a couple of weeks so it will have to wait until we are settled back into our house in Sydney.
Aquaponics would be fabulous here, as there is a water shortage most of the year, and very little produce is grown here (not very fertile soil, combined with low water, low amount of arable land, contamination from extensive phosphate mining). Everything is shipped in and very expensive. For example, a $17AUD for a bunch of celery!

Anyway, I don't think aquaponics will be quite so cost effective in Sydney, but it looks like it will be interesting and provide healthy food for my family, so I'm looking forward to getting something started.

I've never been much of a gardener, but always have fresh herbs growing, because I love to cook!

I've long been thinking that Nauru could be a great place to do a commercial aquaponic or hydroponic farm. Are there any commercial greenhouses on the island?
