Hi All, Been looking into aquaponics for a little while now and just bought a few plastic drums yesterday so I think i am ready to get started! But have a few questions. I am using a small 25L blue barrel, (I live in an apartment so i can not go larger) but not sure on what fish or how many? As it is getting colder I am thinking Trout from my research? Maybe a yabbie or two? How are Yabbies with colder water? It will be living on my balcony. Also growing media, I have looked at Bunnings and a few Nursery and no one knows what i am talking about when i say expanded clay.. Where to get in the Campbelltown/Highlands area? As it is a small system i am thinking of running it of solar and a battery/Inverter and timer.. Should cost under $30 as I can built most myself and having parts already.. has anyone done anything similar? |

.. The reality is that in a small system, it is not really practical to look at producing real table food from the fish, Given.an appartment situation, I think that I would be looking at a.cosmetic aquarium, that has interest and then plumb it to an aquaponics system for plant production.. Try some yabbies and guppies or gold fish etc... or Koi.. just something that adds interest.. IMHO .. |

. btw... I have a medium sized aquarium in the lounge room with RedClaw and guppies.. Previously, we had yabbies and KOI.. the yabbies will be less active in the cold.. .. |

Hi Thanks for the reply I just realized I put 25L its actually a 60L barrel. I assume that would make a difference? |
