Post subject:  Greetings from Cape Town

Hey all - I learnt so much from this forum, it's only fair I make my presence known 8)

I have just completed my first setup, which is a CHIFT PIST system using two IBCs. It has been running for a month and the fish and a few plants have only been introduced over this past weekend. So far so good. I am using an auto siphon at this stage and it seems to be working well enough.

I started with hydroponics a few years back, running two greenhouses at the moment, one at my home and another at my office. I also have a koi pond at home which has been hooked up to an artificial wetland and a system for starting seedlings.

Then on the side I have been involved in converting two swimming pools to natural pools and we are busy designing a new build natural pool at the moment.

I am a civil / coastal engineer during the week, and during weekends I am a FISHING NUT! WE have a good yellowfin tuna fishery here, also yellowtail (kings), and a lot of other inshore species. I also love my freshwater fishing, especially bass, and my mates and I try to do one trip a year up to the Okavango river to target tiger fish and the various bream species there. Estuary fishing is also great here and we have various species, also including cob (mulloway). Been targeting the estuary species on fly lately and slow but surely increasing my success rate.

Cheers, Will

My system is up and running and doing very well I think. I planted a handful of seedlings on the 8th of Feb, at the same time introducing 9 tilapias of around 80mm in length. Today I tested the water and everything looks good, Ph 7.5, NO2 zero, NO3 5mg/l, PO4 zero, NH3 / NH4 zero.

In 7 days, the kale and purple basil have actually doubled in size which I reckon is amazing!

Will,

Excellent growth! I love the time-lapse. Please keep taking fotos to record that amazing growth.

There are a lot of pretty neat time-lapse aquaponics videos out there, for example:
