Greetings from Central Texas!

I am an Aquaponic newbie, I don't have a system yet, I'm doing my research BEFORE I build. I have read Sylvia Bernstein's Aquaponic Gardening and everything I can find from Murray Hallman as well as the IBC's of Aquaponics.

I will be building a passive solar greenhouse for my Aquaponic system which will include eight 275 Gal IBC Totes just for rainwater collection and insulation on the north wall to help mitigate the wide range of summer and winter temperatures here in Central Texas. I will be using IBC Totes for ALL tanks and beds in the Aquaponic system too because they are framed and rectangular and relatively cheap.

I would like to maximize the growing/filtration area by using three sumps in a CHOP system to double as DWC/Raft growing system AND have Red Claw Crayfish living in a 275 Gal IBC which will double as a swirl filter located between the 330 Gal. Fish tank and three expanded shale grow beds.

I have a diagram but am NOT allowed attach it in Word, PDF or a large enough jpeg to show the details. Please let me know if anyone has done this or if you think it will be functional. I would appreciate any advice or input you may have.

Best Regards to All,
Steve

I would strongly urge you to find a way to upload diagrams or pics so folks will better understand your idea and visualize it. I suspect you could zip up one of the unallowed file types to upload it. Perhaps the large JPEG could be split into parts to upload?

Can you summarize a few parameters to help us crunch a few numbers?

How much circulating water?

How much wet growbed media?

How much fish load do you anticipate or plan to support?

I'm sure others will have more questions, but perhaps this can help further along the discussion.

Thanks,

You can zip pdf's or word docs and then attach them no probs... I wouldn't bother being too serious about the redclaw in the system..
