Post subject:  Question on growing Tasmanian DeepSea Crab
As I come from Tasmania (sadly) moving to Perth was a real sea change for me, an as I am now getting into Aquaponics over next few months I was wondering if I could breed a couple of King Crab from Tasmanian Southern Ocean.

They grow to 35-40 pounds in wild. Can Aquaponics do Salt water?..

I suspect one needs deeper pockets to succeed with saltwater AP than freshwater AP. Obviously pioneers are needed in this field. Go for it! ;-)

Once you master fresh water AP then you can think about salt water. By the time you have a good grasp on fresh water AP, you'll then realize it just aint worth thinking about salt.. :lol:

Just as salt water aquariums are a lot more difficult than fresh aquariums well AP is the same, and for what, so you get a harvest of kelp or seaweed from the system? Also forget breeding unusual animals like king crabs. Look for species that are bred commercially, if you are able to breed a fish or crustacean easily, then it will be done now already. Aquaculture industry has been around for a long time with a lot of people trying new and different species.

If no one is doing it, then 99.9% of the time it will be because it's either too damn hard or just pointless. In fact most of the species already being bred in Australia commercially are far to difficult for backyarders to attempt breeding themselves..

Sorry for being a wet blanket but its just the harsh reality.

hehe no worries, thanks guys. yer as a Trawlerman I am used to catching King Crab, but never thought about growing a few myself till Now.

Probably going to focus on Marron I think you call them ??...Trying to find somewhere I could buy the blue ones.
