Hi folks,

Greetings ! I am a newbie here and also in AP..

Set up my first DIY AP system at home which has been working over a month now.
Started with 2 Gold fish as starters, Plants (Plectranthus amboinicus) a small glass aquarium tank as FT, gravel bed as GM, bell siphon and a small immersible pumb. The plants were grown up ones taken directly from my garden, roots cleaned with water and planted in the GM.

No serious math, pH checking etc so far. Just got it started and left it for itself. Only feeding fishes once daily and observation from my side.. Not sure but to me the system seems to be working fine so far..Added two more fishes 2 weeks back..

The motor pumps 24/7 to GM with plants -> Auto siphon drains much faster back to FT once water level reaches Stand pipe level.

However, the Flood n Drain interval is very frequent. One FnD cycle gets completed in every 3 minutes !!! Crazy or Stupid ?? :)
Got bigger plans now... Planning to introduce of a Sump to keep the water level always constant in FT and also to increase the FnD cycle interval..

What say ?? Do comment your views..

..
Hi and welcome .. :wave1:

Only thought on the FnD cycle time is that it should be just fine..
Those with much experience, suggest that there is minimal difference between constant flood and flood and drain..
So a rapid flood and drain should be fine as it will allow plenty of air to get to roots and the bacteria..

@BuiDoi: thanks for your thoughts.

The update:
As said earlier, revamped the system by introducing a sump tank (ST), more fishes, plants and also an amazing diy PVC overflow..
I feel my AP sys works much better now.
The water level in FT is the same always; thanks to the ST.
The PVC overflow works great even w/o a check valve and makes zero noise ! And most importantly, it avoided the need to drill the glass FT for overflow.. Quite satisfying !
Sharing some pics too..
Good day to all..

Friends,

I am a starter here. Have been looking for some information on Aquaponics.

I have started my system with a PVC 700 Ltr. Tank. Commissioned it on 2nd Oct. 2015 by adding 70 seedlings of Tilapia.

After 10 days, Nitrate was found 50 + ppm and some 35 ppm Nitrite. Ammonia is in traces in the Fish Tank.

I have planted quite a few vegetable plants in the Gravel bed. Bitter gourd, Pumkin, Snake Gourd, Ladies finger, spinach .... all in one sq. mtr area.

Everything goes fine. An excellent engagement.

Now, is there anyone who has grown Pearl Spot fish - Karimeen in Kerala - in Aquaponics ? Will they grow like Tilapia ?

B'regs
