Hi all,, my name is Pat Pollard my aquaponics system consists of 4 plastic 44s cut in half these flow back into my gold fish pond,, I have had this setup for about 4 years and only grow strawberries to just keep the pond crystal clear,,I grow organically in my backyard so havent really converted to aquaponics fully. I also own a hobby farm and would like to set up a larger intergrated system in the near future.

I keep chickens and have just brought a biopod and was looking for some BSFL in Perth Western Australia,, I have seen a post by Gabe saying he has some if anyone is interested but due to being a new mwmber I cannot message him yet,,not sure how long till I can Message or if someone can contact him for me (searched Perth BSFL to find him)

Anyways great site and I hope to learn and also contribute to this site in the future Thanks Pat

Welcome. Saw some BSFL in my worm bin the other day. I would imagine you have them about in VP too. The ones in my worm bin did not look active so maybe not warm enough yet?

Put some food scraps in the biopod and they will come. I tried bread soaked in milk and worked well.

Hi Pat

I have kept all my worm bins inside during winter so don't have any at the moment, I moved them out two weeks ago so will be checking for BSFL.

They normally come once i add a bit of chicken poo to to the bins. As Matt said - they all around. If you get some chicken manure going in a compost heap/worm bin they should arrive. They don't like the perth winters - but they must be able to overwinter because they normally arrive quickly once weather starts heating.

Gabe

Thanks heaps for all the replies,, I collect all the vege scraps from the Manning farmers market (the main two vege sellers) I then feed this to the rabbits,, what they dont eat I then compost with a bit of horse poo to soak up the mess,, even then it starts to get a bit funky and my worms dont want to touch it,, this is what I brought the biopod for,,saw it in the gumtree for 150 second hand I thought maybe the guy would have some but he said same as you guys set it up and they will come,, I pulled a 70 or so large grub/maggots out of my compost and set them up in a two meter flywire enclosure to breed but all I have is a shitload of big march flys lol

I also own a hobby farm at westdale and would like to get something going on a large scale if I can source enough food for them

Anyway Im sure the posts will show up when they arrive Thanks again Pat

Also the biopod I brought wasnt cleaned out properly so I was hoping the smell would attract them and discourage other flies
