Post subject:  New to Aquaponics - From Portugal

Hello!!!
After some research, I am trying my first aquaponics... Trying it in a backyard of an island (subtropical).

I was going to redesign my backyard, so I decided to incorporate the aquaponics as part of the whole design. In this country there is no Tilapia for sale, so the only choices I have are Trout and Carp. I guess I will start with trout to see how it goes. So I designed a tank which is partly underground and very shaded on the other side... (hopefully will keep the water cold enough). In winter temperatures here can reach 8 degrees celcius minimum, and 18 max.. and summer always 18 - 26. The fish tank can be filled with almost 1800 liters of water.
Trying the simple system with the pump on a fish tank, and grow media and plants to filter the water. No other filters or DWC for now, as not planning to overload with fish. A bit less than 3m2 of growing beds... hopefully can add a bit more later.. The pump does 5500 lt p/ hour. Still haven't tried anything...

First doubt: I will waterproof the tank and grow beds now, is the normal waterproofing used in construction (like aquamat for example) safe for the PH?

Here is what I have for now... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Aquaponi ... 4249969651

Looking forward to hear any suggestion/ comment .. anything!!
Thank you

Good morning from Portugal mainland :)
I live in Maia (near Porto city, and a few minutes from Oporto airport).

I'm also considering the conversion of my hidroponic system (2,5 m2 of water boxes)!

Here on mainland, there are some people that sells young moçambique tilapia (it seams that this one is the only
legal tilapia on our country)! Sometimes they apear on OLX for sell.
