Really excited to find this website!

I was turned onto aquaponics after a family trip to Disney's Epcot and got to see their amazing aquaponics displays. As a past hydroponic grower I was completely fascinated!

I am looking to start a small as a hobbyist in aquaponics and think it would be a great way to spend some time doing an educational activity with my two kids who are 4 and 7.

Anyways, looking forward to learning!

Hi Ralph, check out the IBC of Aquaponics (at the top of the Forum page) for start up information and fantastic photos and layouts of a range of backyard AP systems. I found it to be a very useful starting point for me earlier this year.

Yes, it is addictive :shifty: - I wonder if there is a thread for 'AP Anonymous' - "please give me the strength to not read through yet another member's system thread when it is already 1.30 am, to not overstock my system, and to resist the temptation of expanding my system when I see everyone else's amazing setups" :lol:

Honestly I am looking to start as small as possible just to give it a test run, what is the smallest you have seen? Something kid-friendly I guess to play around with at first if thats possible lol

Www.fastonline.org. Barrel ponics, they have a manual that pretty much tells you what you need to know or I searched YouTube and have seen a lot of systems. Mostly bell siphon. I have chosen to stay away from NFT systems since the temperature will fluctuate more as it goes down the pipe length. I am also not going to use a raft system yet because I like to have a growing medium.

@ralphGwolf - +1 to joc's suggestion, look at Jayendra's indoor system if you are planning to have your system inside.

If you are planning on having the system outside, you should keep in mind that a small volume of water means a high fluctuation of temperature. You would have to come up with ways to prevent that.

High fluctuation of temp. will stressed out your fishes. You can take a look at my system if you like, i would consider my system small compared to the others, and learn from my mistakes.
