My name is Konadon, I'm new to this forum and to aquaponics. I tried hydroponics and found it to labor intensive with emptying water and starting over about every 10 days. Tap Water here in KONA, was pretty hard running about 650-700ppm EC. Im now designing and collecting parts and containers for a new aquaponics system. I have room for 4 IBC growbeds, filled with black lava cinder, holding approx 192 gals. of H2O, a submerged sump tank with a capacity of 330 gals. H2O, a fish tank with a capacity of approx 390 gals. H2O, and I'm trying a remote barrel control syphon made from a plastic 55 gal drum. I presently have the sump tank which is 6'dia. x 30"H, submerged about 30" into the ground but find its not deep enuf. I have to cover it with a deck and put the fish tank on top of it along with the remote barrel control syphon. I also have 2 of my 4 IBC growbeds. It's hard to find IBC's here in the islands that haven't been used for toxic chems. I'm trying the remote barrel control syphon because here in the islands things grow so rapidly and large that I couldn't find a bell syphon in each growbed, let alone work on it if needed. So it's easier to connect all the beds to one remote syphon, I've seen this done here in the islands but didn't get enuf info on how to plumb it. Mahalo N aloha for reading. Konadon |
