Hello, newby here from Louisiana. I went to Haiti a few times after the earthquake and aquaponics tilapia farms along with fertilizer from chicken coops were a great sustainable cheap source of food and jobs. I am headed to S Africa in a month and they have very similar issues there. Looking to bring the Aquaponics model down there. Unfortunately, I know nothing about it. Looking for help writing a plan, materials list, and ideas. If anyone can help it would be great!

Hi, I'm from South Africa and honestly maybe save yourself a plane ticket... Aquaponics is going strong here. We have a curriculum in Agricultural Schools, a number of successful companies running AP and we are busy all over the country teaching disadvantaged communities how to incorporate AP in different ways into their lives.
The design you are talking about is typically where a chicken coop is built over a fish tank, and then Catfish (known here as Barbells) are grown in the tank's. The market here is very limited though as far as Barbell eaters goes. The South Africans prefer their Chickens. We are busy with a campaign to introduce all economic demographics to Tilapia etc, but it's a long way coming as our country is very busy with in house corruption in government and the ripple effect it has on the low income citizens...
So yes, uhm... Thanks for the good intentions, but South Africans are not as Third World as you might expect. We actually already have 4G LTE mobile networks in and around our Metropolitan cities, 8 Lane Highways and we hosted the Soccer World cup when the rest of the world was bent under a recession
Congo needs a lot of help though as does many countries where War is a daily part of children's lives
Good luck otherwise
P. S The Big 5 do not roam wild here, you have to go to a Zoo or a Game Reserve to view them
