Hi everyone! I'm a new member.. I'm planning to set-up a CHIST PIST system... - Fish tank, 1000-liter IBC Tank - 3 Grow beds (40"L x 48"W x 10"H), ~1000 liters - Sump with floating rafts (144"L x 48"W x 10"H), ~1,000 liters Water will be pumped from the sump to the fish tank. Water then then overflow from the fish tank into the grow beds where it will "flood and drain" back into the sump via syphons. I just want to be sure This set-up will work...particularly using DWC trough as SUMP TANK. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Should work ok, Id add some aeration to the sump. If you find the plants are suffering you may need some finer filtering. |

Depending on what you grow, you might have issues with the level changing. I tried tomatoes in my dwc, and when the water levels changed for whatever reasons, the tomatoes would pull from their pots because they were stringed up above. Also, make sure your water return is designed so that it doesn't splash on the plants. Other than that, have fun. |

.. Most things will work, but with little issues.. I have added a serial connection of a SWC (shallow) for Duck Weed and then DWC for delicate vegies like lettuces .. and I quickly found that solids are appearing... So I have grabbed a small three-in-one aquarium pump/filter and fed an airline into it so 24/7 there will be additional and directed circulation, solids capture and even O2 distribution.. Given how cheeply they can be had on AliExpress, I'll be getting spares along with air pumps.. .. . |

@Charlie, thanks for reminding me, I will surely add aeration to the sump and fish tank, too. @Colum Black-Byron, thanks for your comments. I intend to place in the grow beds plants that need more root anchoring like tomatoes, okra, beans, cucumber, etc. Varieties of lettuces will go to the floating rafts in the sump. @BuiDoi, thank you sharing your experience where solids appearing... Expecting this to happen, I intend to put some crayfish under the rafts to feed on the solids the grow beds failed to filter. I will also aerate the sump. Guys, thank you for all your comments and suggestions. I will post pictures when I finish putting this together. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Except for the size, your set up is exactly what I'm planning for mine. I'll be interested to see how it goes. Cheers Jeff |
