Marma_mama here,I currently started a small aquaponics unit in my apartmnt in hope to try my hand at aquaponics! I've been obsessed with fish, and invertebrates and I'm really keen on gardening and growing my own food - so it was only a matter of time before I came onto AQUAPONICS. Better late then never.
I am currently cycling a crayfish tank. I have a small 20 gallon set up in a half barrel and 8 marbled crayfish. I would like to try my hand at growing some kale, cherry tomatoes, garlic and lettuce out of a planter for now. If this system yields a satisfactory amount of crayfish and legumes then i would like to set up a larger system using Tilapia!
Any advice concerning this is much appreciated!
also we were thinking of using perlite as a grow medium, as it's the most affordable and available at hardware stores... is that okay on its own? Any other cheap alternatives?
