Hi, this is our first year at trying aquaponics and its not been very sucessful. We have an IBC with 40 tilapia in th uk. Stuff grows very well but become smitten with bugs. They are like fleas because you can spray them with hose or even jet spray and they just seem to enjoy it. you cannot squish them because they will just jump out of the way. Can anyone identify these critters so I can research a cure. Many thanks

rather than finding a cure, look for the root cause. as I see it, you have algea above the growing media, this algea might be what attract them. From what I know, to limit that, you should take care of your maximum water level in the beds, keep it 5cm below the media surface. |

scotty435 wrote: Springtails. That's what I was thinking. I noticed them hanging out on the FT water surface a few months ago but I didn't bother doing anything about them. They have since disappeared. They like it damp, so as Memes suggested, lower the water level in your GB's if it's a bit high and causing algae growth on the surface. |
