Hello everyone,

Brand new to aquaponics....very excited! Really looking forward to getting started & learning from all the experts here :)

I have so far picked up half of the 2 IBC system...but unfortunately just ran into a snag & am unable to pick up the second half & the fish... yikes! (person let me down)
Hopefully will be able to find someone who is willing to help me collect the rest of the system.

Have ordered an API freshwater test kit & Skrettings fish food, am awaiting an outside powerpoint to be fitted...so am getting there slowly.

Would be great to connect with any other folk closeby....i am sure i will need some questions answered :D

Did you try gumtree? I got my two delivered from a guy in Forrestfield, most off the other stuff I got from Bunning’s, they have the test kits in city farmers Cannington, and if you want an air pump try BYAP for the AC/DC one,

Hi Blizzard, I am already commited to following through on my original arrangement of getting the 2 IBC's, that i mentioned above. So not looking to buy anymore lol.

Have already ordered test kit, fish food & waiting for powerpoint to be fitted outside.

The problem i have at the moment is that the person who helped me pick up the first ibc -now no longer wants to follow through with collecting the other half of the system including the fish.... & i have no suitable transport.. but... i am determined & like they say...where there is a will, there is a way.

I have no clue how the system actually all fits together ..lol...i thought i would get it all here first,
then try & figure it all out.... hopefully it will all come together...(overly optimistic?? hehee)

Thank you for your suggestions.

Ps...we are only a hop,skip & a jump away from each other :)

Unfortunately I don’t have a ute, but I have a toe ball on my 4wd, if you can find a trailer? Roleystone is a bit of a drive but Brookdale is only 6km away from me,

Hi Videha,

Roleystone to Brookdale, pretty much anytime -once i get powerpoint installed,

OK, bit of a way from me (Canning-South Perth area) but if you get really stuck and it is causing you issues
let me know. I have a dual cab ute (so IBC just fits) and head out to Armadale every now and again...

Brookdale end is the easy bit as I use Ranford Rd.

Are you just collecting empty IBC ready to go or do you have to empty it etc ?
{I could only really spare time for a verge to verge}

collecting the other half of the system including the fish....

I have no clue how the system actually all fits together ..lol...i thought i would get it all here first,
then try & figure it all out.... hopefully it will all come together...(overly optimistic?? hehee)

This could be your sticking point. I am not an expert but it is normal to add the fish to a working system that has been running for a little while, even if temporary. Depends a lot on the fish but even goldfish would require that the water has been cycled for a while - few days. Particularly if your source is not so good / scheme water.

I suspect for some fish species it is very critical.

Have you a plan for this ? Maybe get your first IBC up and running, even if just a temporary.
before collecting the second part and fish ? Dont worry about the grow beds - just get the fish tank (FT) part of the IBC set up somewhere level and running until the second one is in more permanent place.

BTW - if not already done so find some time to drop past the Backyard Aquaponics shop in Jandakot.

They are great people and have various systems on display, including their IBC system
(as per the U-Tube video and IBC manual on the http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/ ).

I am sure they would not mind you dropping past and saying hello. And it may make life a little easier.
And the gear they sell comes with a lot of knowledge and advice.

Blizzard, It looks like a long way on the map, yet when i drove it...it wasn't far at all :)

Many thanks for your very kind offer of help....Much appreciated!!

Am still waiting on the chap to come to fit outside powerpoint so unable to co-ordinate any times just yet. He says this week but you know how some tradies can be lol.

I have asked a girlfriend if she will help me....but very unsure whether us two girlies will be able to manage it ourselves? Will keep you posted. Thanks again :)
