Hi to all. Had my interest piqued about 12 months ago when talking to a mate about the drought here. Just built my first system yesterday. A simple IBC unit with 1 GB atm. GB is 300mm but is filled with rock to about 250mm. Used crushed river rock (was too tight for the pretty clay balls) have an bell syphon (it runs about every 10 minutes). Planted a few caulies, asian veg, strawberries and a couple of flower seeds. Very interested to see what happens. Started with 2 capfuls of Maxicrop Seaweed extract and 8 teaspoons of urea for fishless cycling. ph 7.4 Current Ammonia 0.25ppm. Will check again later to see if it takes a bit for the ammonia to get mixed through properly (I'm aiming to maintain it at 2.0ppm right???) until the Nitrite and Nitrate start to appear. Plan to add 15-20 silver perch fingerlings in a few weeks when ammonia and nitrite go to 0 and nitrate increases. Hope I understand this all this stuff right and don't bugger the whole thing up. Please slap me and point me in the right direction if I'm wrong. Gary |

Welcome to the forum Gary You dont need to go as high as 2ppm, I only went to 1ppm with peeponics, and it stayed there for 4 days, about 2 weeks into the process, and was cycled in about 6 weeks, in winter last year. Pics and descriptions of progress are in my system thread. |
