Hello to everyone on this forum.

We thought we would introduce ourselves, as we are finally integrating with the online world, and would like to meet some like-minded people!

We are based in Sussex, England and keep Koi, Rainbow trout and crayfish in our main aquaponics system, as well as koi, goldfish, loach etc in our mini-system.

We are especially interested in chatting to people who live in similar climates to the UK, to hear about your experiences with growing aquaponically in the UK & are interested in sharing and swapping knowledge and ideas!

Fellow Sussex ap, hey there, hope your system is doing well. Can I ask where you got your crayfish from, I've been looking but can't find a live supplier.

Hello! Where abouts are you based? Do you have any pictures? We are keen to meet other people in the area, and build a community of people practising in the UK. The crayfish (signals, non-native) are in abundance in the rivers, but need a lisence and approved trap. As they are wild, you do run the risk of introducing disease to other aquaculture, so do take that into account before adding them. Hope this helps, Emerald

Thanks for the info. I'm in pyecombe, just north of Brighton. What about yourself? A tilapia supplier is also hard to find...there are pictures on my thread...it's just a small one to learn the fundamentals before starting the main one.

Why tilapia?

There is a supplier called livetilapia and a few others in the UK, the fish cost around a pound each. We thought it would be too cold (expensive to heat) to keep tilapia over winter, hence the koi and trout, but from the way our system runs, it shouldn't be a problem for us, and is something we're thinking about again. Also they seem to come up in the Friday ad occasionally!

Tilapia cook well and take on good flavoring. Yeah I was going to run a solar water heater to keep the tilapia happy.

Where abouts in Sussex are you? Hopefully be erecting a polytunnel soon so I can scale,up...
