Hey everyone, My name is Adam, originally from Pennsylvania, currently living in The Bahamas on the island of Eleuthera. My professional background is in permaculture, sustainable development, and organic farming. Got into aquaponics somewhat unintentionally about six months ago. I work as a permaculture educator for a nonprofit semester abroad school and marine research station here. There is also a large-scale aquaponics system here that I started to get invovled with back in March because the person who was managing it was leaving. Now I am managing the system on my own and it's become my main focus, so I'm trying to gain more expertise and really manage the system efficiently and productively. I wil post a link to a thread in the member's systems sub-forum once I create a post about my system there. Aside from aquaponics, I also look after some pigs and goats, raised garden beds, and a diversified orchard. I hope to have a farm and aquaponics system of my own someday, possibly in Hawaii or South Korea. So I'd be interested connecting with members who have systems in either of those places. |

Welcome Adam! I'll look forward to seeing your system. Are you selling the produce, or is it all for research? |

We do some research here but my focus is really on maximizing production and using the system for education. We don't sell anything yet; we consume everything directly ourselves as we have a large campus. But I do plan on selling fresh lettuce, basil, and mint soon to local restaurants if I can find some that are interested. Here is a link to a thread about my system by the way: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=22553. |
