so I am getting ready to start my basement aquaponics system and I'm having trouble finding what plants will grow in a floating bed system. Is there a list of plants I can refer to?

jade does great..
i've grown swiss chard, kale, lettuce (lots of varieties), cress, basil, oregano, thyme, asparagus.. lots of leafy greens
my biggest problem with my basement system is having plants that don't get too tall

I seen one video of a guy doing tomato plants. Have you ever tried or should I just leave those to the media beds?

i'm using media beds.. i tried tomatoes, and had some flowering, but i just don't have the room.. if you're just using flourescent lights, i'd say no.. but then again, i've tried all kinds of stuff.. had cantaloupe growing up into my ceiling, lots of flowers but a pain to pollinate

You can grow almost anything. THe decision is more about what you want and how your system is setup.

^^ +1 ^^

Also make use you research adequate lighting for an indoor system. It's were I see a lot of indoor AP setups falling down. Look at the marijuana websites, they've got it down to a fine art.

I am planing on using a blue pool liner for the fish tank and grow beds but I see everyone uses black. Is this going to be a problem in the future?

No. Black is the most common liner colour available so it is the one that gets used the most. Lighter colours for FTs are better in my opinion because it is easier to see your fish.

It depends if weight will be an issue for you? If not, pea gravel or blue metal should be fine :-)
