I would like to say hello to everyone here on backyard aquaponics. As the title states I'm from upstate NY USA. I'm just getting started in aquaponics and it is very fascinating! I've grown a convetional garden for the past 2 yrs now and have had very good luck with that. My only concern has been the short growing season. I'm very fortunate to have fertile ground and plenty of water but the amount of work that it would take to grow a big enough garden to sustain my family of 5 for an entire yr is more than I can take on as the sole "bread" winner of my house hold. I've considered conventional growing in a green house that would help rectify my problem. Then I found aquaponics! What a great concept, this will put me well on my way to being 100% food self sufficient. Which is my ultimate goal. I look foward to gather as much knowledge as I can and more importantly share my expierences so others can join the movement.

Welcome! I too am a newby, but it is a very interesting and addictive from what I found ahaha!
